No Turning Back

2017 has already been a huge year for me. Even though I was only in LA for less than a year, this past weekend, I packed up my apartment in Santa Monica and drove the U-haul back to the Bay Area. Sadly yes, that means no more Alfred coffee or tea… ūüė¶

When I first moved to LA and people would ask me why, I would say I needed a change. But after living there for a few months I realized it wasn’t the place that needed to change, it was me. Ya see, I have learned that I have a tendency to self sabotage. Whether it was when I was in school or recently with my career. Heck I even do it with some of my relationships.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with what it means to self sabotage. I’ll give you the simplest explanation. I am constantly getting in the way of my own success. And as much as I hate to admit it, this most likely stems from fear. Fear of failing. Fear of being unhappy. Fear of disappointing the people I love. Whatever the reason, I’m sick of living in this¬†la la land and I’m finally going to do something about it. I refuse to let fear control my life.

I may be moving back home but I couldn’t be happier. A place can’t determine my happiness and success, only I can. And in 2017, I’m going all in. In all aspects of my life, whether it’s with my career or falling in love, I am choosing to succeed. I am choosing to be happy.

Best Donuts in Nashville

My friend and I took a quick trip to Nashville over NYE weekend and the majority of our time was spent eating. Whether it was barbecue, tacos, or late night drunchies, our trip pretty much revolved around what our next meal would be!

I had heard so many great things about Five Daughters Bakery in Nashville that I had to check it out for myself. It was so delicious, I had to go back a second time before we headed home. My favorite donut was the simple vanilla sugar and my friend Jamie loved the vanilla cream!

Nothing is sweeter than family!

While the donuts were amazing, I also loved the story behind the bakery. The bakery is owned and operated by a young couple and their five daughters. The husband just so happens to be a third generation baker (hence the friggin delicious donuts)! The bakery is bright and colorful and when you walk in it just feels super homey. There are family pictures on the walls, as well as adorable signs and decorations. They even had a christmas tree up in the front room!

They also are a company that values giving back! In the front of their shop they were selling a few goodies and had a bunch of information on an organization called Given Ministries. Given works to rescue children and their families from trafficking and slavery around the world. Their mission is to rescue, restore, and reentry. Not only do they remove people physically from these enslaved situations but they offer rehabilitation to restore their emotional health as well. Lastly, they work on reentry, to give these people the necessary skills to form a career so they never have to look back. Learn more about this awesome organization here: http://www.givenministries.org

It truly was an great experience visiting Five Daughters Bakery and I can’t wait to go back soon! What is your favorite local bakery?! I’d love to visit one day!screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-2-05-16-pm

Best coffee shops to get work done

Cafecito Organico

It seems like everyone is always on the move in LA. If you’ve ever tried to sit and actually get work done in a Starbucks it’s nearly impossible (although this may just be a personal problem). People are always popping in and out of coffee shops and it can be a little distracting.

A friend told me about this hip little outdoor coffee shop in Silverlake called Cafecito Organico. I checked it out for myself in my ridiculously chunky and comfy sweater and not only is this place absolutely adorable, but it is the chillest coffee shop I have ever been to. You could sit there for hours and not get distracted at all. I should also mention their cappuccinos are seriously delicious and (not that it really matters to me) but they have gluten free and vegan goodies as well!

I spent my time at the cafe reading and jotting down positive thoughts and quotes in my notebook. This is something I do often just to give myself a little positive reminder or inspiration. One of my favorite quotes by Mark Twain is, “kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” I think we often get caught up in our own little worlds and forget how easy it is to be kind to people. Seriously, even an oz. of kindness can go long way!

You can always start small, for example, by simply buying a book! For every purchase you make from http://www.betterworldbooks.com a book gets donated through Feed the Children and Books for Africa. Over 20 million books have been donated so far and with your help that number will only continue growing! If you were going to buy the book anyway, why not help someone out at the same time? Yes, spreading kindness can be this easy and will always put a smile on your face!kelly-8screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-2-05-16-pm

Camo, fringe, and lace. It’s all commonplace.

While these three styles may be repeated too often they’re still on the top of my list for my fall wardrobe. This is such an easy outfit but it’s also a head turner (Just ask my mom, Katherine Heigl did a double take). I love throwing on this camo jacket to dress an outfit down a bit.¬†I used it to give a more casual vibe to¬†my Monday date night outfit!

Luckily in Santa Monica it’s easy to get away with wearing tank tops in the¬†fall but it doesn’t hurt to have a light jacket for those windy nights by the ocean.

You can find similar jacket options and my tank top here:

There are also some great inexpensive Camo options on Amazon. When shopping on Amazon make sure to go through Amazon Smiles. This way some of the proceeds from your purchase are donated to your favorite charity. When shopping for Camo why not select the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

My favorite part about this outfit though is definitely my boots. I will never have enough shoes. They are my weakness and always will be.¬†This pair of Dolce Vita boots in particular are one of my go to’s for fall and winter. They go with almost everything and the fringe makes for fun and flashy walks down Ocean Ave (with my eyes closed of course).

Here are a couple of options for fall fringe boots:

Saint Laurant or Sam Edelman

What are some of your favorite fall combinations? And how do guys wear your camo? ūüôāscreen-shot-2016-11-18-at-2-05-16-pm
